time management

I am really excited because I was one of the “featured photographers” on Leah Remillet’s Go4Pro blog a couple weeks ago.  If you are not familiar with Leah, she is a photographer who teaches and inspires others who are starting their own businesses.  I have learned A LOT from her and was honored to be featured on her site.  When I clicked the link “Favorite Apps of Professional Photographers,” I almost fell off my seat when my face popped up on the screen!

In my little blurb on the Go4Pro site, I mentioned a couple apps that I enjoy using.  Today I want to talk a little bit about the one I like to use for time management.  It is called 30/30.

I first heard about this app while watching a class taught by another great photographer, Tamara Lackey.  When I heard what it was all about, I knew I needed it!

If you have lots to do and need a little help staying focused (like me!), this app is for you.  You can schedule specific tasks that need to be completed, and assign the amount of time you will give yourself to complete them.  The app will alert you when it’s time to move into the next task.  I also schedule reminders to get a drink of water and eat lunch.  Some of you might think that is crazy, others will completely understand.  It’s so easy to get SUCKED IN to what is happening on our computer screens!  I also reward myself after completing tasks.  Maybe I get to browse Facebook for ten minutes or dig into my pile of magazines.

Here is a screen shot from my phone.  You can see on the top that you can easily add or subtract 5 minutes from a task if needed.  You can show actual times that you want to accomplish each item on the list, but I don’t do that because I never know exactly when I am going to start.  You can customize the colors or little icons that go along with your tasks.  You can easily rearrange the items or add and subtract items with various finger swipes or taps.  For me, it puts a little fun into getting things done.  (Ooo, I rhymed!)

I wanted to share something that I have found helpful.  I hope you do too!

If you are interested to see the other apps my fellow photographers shared on Leah’s blog, click here.

P.S.  If you download the app and try it out, leave me a comment to let me know what you think.  Or just leave a comment to be nice.  🙂

P.S.S.  I am also enrolled in an organizing class by Kelli France called BonjOrganization.  I’ll be sharing what I learned on my Facebook page and in future blog posts.  Stay tuned!

Information about the class can be found here.
