summer adventures

mountain-familyI am going to use this “thankful thursday” to give a huge shout out and THANK YOU to my friend, Ashley.  If you have been following along this summer, you know that she posted local family friendly activities on my blog every week.  They can be found under the “adventures with ashley” tab at the top of this post.  There is still time left before the snow falls to try out some of her suggestions if you haven’t yet.

I was able to thank her by taking some photos of her adorable family.  They love the great outdoors, so it seemed fitting that we venture up into the mountains for our little photo shoot.

thankful

Today I am thankful for:

  • sore muscles (it’s good to get them working again)
  • being able to re purpose existing furniture (I’m still on a mission to organize!)
  • homemade granola

fun in the mountains

I love going up to the mountains in the summer time, especially when the wild flowers are blooming.    The scenery is so beautiful, it’s almost like you can’t take a bad shot!  Of course a beautiful family just makes it better.

happy-familyI have had many session where the parents think their kids are behaving poorly and they are sure that we won’t get any great photos.  This was one of those instances.  As we were parting ways, Mom said, “I’ll be happy if we get three good pictures.”  I love hearing that because I KNOW there are some great shots and mom and dad will be thrilled when they finally see them.  Just look at these adorable boys!boys-momsunny-flowersfamily-in-the-mountainsdad-hugThe last shot was captured because of pure bribery, but sometime you have to do it.  This little guy was really excited about getting an ice cream cone, so mom asked him to give dad one big hug before we left.  Whatever works!

I have another mountain session to share soon.  🙂

thankful

Today I am thankful for:

  • loyal clients who come back each year for family pictures.  I appreciate them!
  • the long-awaited visit from my dad.
  • candy corn.  I try to hold out as long as I can when I see it hit the shelves, but I have already given in and it’s not even October yet.

new baby

I am always honored when new parents invite me into their homes to photograph their new babies.  We might have a cup of coffee together, talking about lack of sleep, how to console the new baby, or feeding schedules.  During our visit, I take some pictures.

I didn’t know these two before they were pregnant, but it turns out we were all at the same concert eight years ago!  In a different state!  Small world.  (And crazy that we figured that out).

parents-baby-black-and-whiteparents-new-babyI couldn’t get over this little guy’s furrowed brow.  He was very serious about taking in his new surroundings.hello-worldThe front porch.  Welcome home, little guy.new-baby-front-stepsholding-mom-fingerlooking-at-babybaby-front-stepsDad wanted to incorporate his banjo into our shoot.  Why not put the baby right in it?  I’m sure the baby will love that shot when he grows up.dad-baby-banjoI enjoyed meeting this handsome new baby and spending time with his parents.  Thanks for inviting me over.

Salt Lake City and County Building Tour

Listen up, everyone.  Ashley said this was one of her favorite adventures of the summer.  If you are interested in this tour, there are only TWO Mondays left this season to get in on the action– today and next week.  Check it out:

Salt Lake City and County Building Tour

The Salt Lake City and County Building is one of Salt Lake City’s most unique and historical buildings.  During the summer months the Utah Heritage Foundation offers a FREE one-hour guided tour of this amazing building on Mondays at 12pm & 1pm.  The guided tour starts in the basement beneath the building to see the base isolators and ends in the attic where you can walk the stairs to the top of the clock tower.  You can go the Utah Heritage Foundation’s webpage to get more information about this tour.  I would definitely recommend this for all ages, but plan on carrying your younger children up and down all the flights of stairs because the stroller can’t go in the basement or attic.
